The day has finally arrived - Day 2

Since the world cup pairings were drawn over 6 months ago, USA vs England is a game everyone had circled on their calendars. You don't have to be a fan of either nation to understand the magnitude of this game. Classic David vs Goliath. The Americans looking to prove themselves and earn global respect on the futbol bitch on the biggest stage in the world, while the English carry expectations that are second to none. Furthermore, the Brits have a sense of arrogance and entitlement when it comes to soccer or futbol as it's called in Europe. To be frank, they think their shit doesn't stink. Apparently this is how much they respect the united states as a country and how to run a soccer club http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/worldcup/story/american-flag-burning-by-liverpool-fans-should-incense-yanks ...Bulletin board material anyone?

So I know I missed the South Korea vs Greece game this morning, Its not my fault that my trip to Comerica park to see Verlander on the bump last night turned into a trip to MGM casino. Since the gambling gods weren't so nice to me last night, I decided to sleep in on my day off and get a little extra rest before I hit the trail for my morning run. Not to mention we all know my prediction would of been South Korea winning 2-0 anyway. Enough said.

Day 2:

  • Group B (Johannesburg) Argentina vs Nigeria (16:00) -- Led by the unquestioned best player in the world Lionel Messi, Argentina has high hopes for WC 2010. They have the best offensive trio of any team in the tournament (Messi, Tevez, Higuain). The real question is if Diego "the donkey" Maradona can stay out of his owns team way since he seems to being doing more harm than good. I don't know much about Nigeria other than they can run a lot and will play their hearts out. Prediction: Argentina 3-0

  • Group C (Rustenburg) USA vs England (16:00) -- I could analyze this game for hours but the fact of the matter is England is loaded, period. They have one of the top 3 players in the world in Wayne Rooney and the biggest question will be can the US contain him. There are a lot of questions surround the US team, but having Tim Howard in net really makes me feel optimistic about this one. I'd feel even more optimistic if the US back line wasn't banged up. England will be bothered by the pace of Altidor, Dempsey, Donovan and Findley, but will it be enough? A draw here is like a win for the Americans. Prediction: 1-1
